Escalator Rollers

Nowadays, escalator has been part of our lives, when going out to the mall, going to work or going to any big buildings or huge establishments. Escalator creates a big help especially to those with minor disability that cannot walk through high stairways. For those people whose handicap or totally disabled that cannot even stand or walk, elevator is a big help. But don’t even wondering how these helpful machinery worked? It is accompanied with different parts affixed that help to its accurate condition when it’s working. One of the most useful parts of an escalator is the escalator roller. There are different kinds of escalator rollers that are fit to some escalator parts such as the chain roller, step roller, tension roller, fraction roller, drive roller, handrail roller. These rollers are useful not only for escalator and elevator in accordance with the trade standard but also to non-standard merchandise which is referred by the customer' requirements. The specifications and functions of some escalator rollers are discussed as follows.

Chain Roller

A Chain roller is a simple, dependable, and efficient means of power transmission. It is the most common type chain drive that is used for transmission of mechanical power on many varieties of domestic, industrial and agricultural machinery which is consists of a sequence of short cylindrical rollers detained together by lateral links and driven by a toothed wheel or commonly described as the sprocket. Chain roller comes into different sizes which may provide a smooth and accurate transmission of power.

Tension roller

Tension roller is a loose pulley which aims to maintain belt tension and increase the distance viewpoint of the small pulley of a belt transmission. This kind of rollers is usually installed on the driven side of the belt near the small pulley. But somehow when the transmissions with tension rollers have decreases the service life of the belt because of additional flexure then it will become as one of its disadvantage.

Handrail Roller

An escalator system includes a handrail where it includes a handrail guide and a variety of descending bearing chains interrelated to form a handrail chain and protected to the handrail guide. There are numbers of a roller that are tenable to at least one end of the channel and that has a rolling contact with the handrail. A chain which includes rolling elements, such as roller bearings, can be added between the handrail guide and the handrail. Usually, chain is immovable to the handrail guide, with the roller bearings attached at the handrail. The process results to a rolling contact, and a rolling friction between the handrail and handrail guide. However when operating, it produces undesirable noise because of broken sealing of the roller bearing that causes the lubricants to leak which results to dry rubbing that produces the noise. Furthermore, when the roller bearing chain is exposed to a side force, the roller bearing interacts and buffs against the handrail guide which also may also produce an undesirable noise.
